Volunteers Welcome

Iglesia Ni Cristo at Sand Island Park
Hawai`i's Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has the daunting task of managing all of the natural and cultural resources within the state's public lands and ocean waters. Ranking 47th in the nation for fish and wildlife funding, DLNR can no longer care for all the resources at risk and do it alone.

Groups of 10 or more, or individuals, can volunteer with one of DLNR's many programs. Join us for an organized weekend group activity or work individually alongside our staff for an extended period of time. You can join DLNR in partnerships for resource protection. Together, using our many skills, talents and abilities, we can organize into a world community that is committed to the protection and enhancement of Hawai`i's special areas and resources.

Volunteers are needed for a broad range of responsibilities. Many of our state parks, trails, historic buildings, and harbors have been adopted and rely on volunteer community groups for their beautification and maintenance. There are numerous other sites that will benefit from your involvement.

DLNR volunteers provide interpretation at many historical sites and parks, build and maintain trails with the Na Ala Hele Program, monitor public hunting and freshwater fishing areas, eradicate invasive alien species in Natural Area Reserves, conduct classes in hunter education, and still more. Join the fun and help Hawai`i's environment!

DLNR's Division of Forestry & Wildlife also administers the Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), a program that offers hands-on environmental conservation opportunities specifically for young adults ranging from High School Juniors to College students (hurry- application deadline for 2006- March 3!). Another opportunity through the Hawaii YCC is a year-round internship program through Americorps. For more information visit the Hawaii YCC website.
